Postpartum Depression Therapy in California
What Is Postpartum Depression?
Postpartum depression (PPD) is a common and treatable perinatal mental health condition that can occur during pregnancy or within the first year after birth. It involves persistent sadness, emotional numbness, loss of interest, or feeling disconnected from yourself, your baby, or the people around you.
Postpartum depression is part of a group of conditions called Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs). These conditions are medical, not personal failures. Many parents experience postpartum depression even if they felt prepared, wanted their baby, or have strong support.
Struggling does not mean you are a bad parent. It means you are human.
Common Symptoms of Postpartum Depression
Ongoing sadness, tearfulness, or hopelessness
Feeling numb, empty, or emotionally flat
Loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed
Feeling disconnected from your baby or partner
Guilt, shame, or harsh self-criticism
Low energy or exhaustion beyond typical sleep deprivation
Changes in appetite or sleep
Difficulty concentrating or making decisions
Thoughts of wanting to escape or feeling overwhelmed by daily life
If these symptoms feel familiar, help is available.
How Postpartum Depression Therapy Helps

Reconnect with yourself and your sense of identity
Process birth experiences or medical trauma
Strengthen bonding and attachment
Build coping tools for daily stress
Restore hope and emotional steadiness
You do not have to “push through” this alone.
