Why Postpartum Planning Matters for Mom

  • Pregnancy and childbirth exert significant physical stress on a woman's body. Postpartum planning helps you to prepare for the physical changes and challenges you will face after childbirth. We will discuss the necessary supplies and knowledge of what to expect in your recovery.

  • Postpartum depression and anxiety are common during the postpartum period. Our plans will help you identify risk factors and coping skills to ensure prompt intervention if needed. Early intervention can significantly reduce the impact of these conditions.

  • For mothers who plan to breastfeed, postpartum planning can include resources and guidance for successful breastfeeding. This support can be crucial for establishing a strong breastfeeding relationship with the baby.

  • Postpartum planning includes learning about newborn care, including feeding, diapering, and soothing techniques. This knowledge helps mothers feel more confident in their parenting abilities and enhances the bonding experience with their baby.

  • Proper nutrition and self-care are vital for any new mom's recovery and overall health during the postpartum period. Planning for healthy meals, hydration, and gentle postpartum exercises can facilitate a smoother transition into motherhood.

  • The arrival of a new baby can strain your relationship. Our postpartum plans include discussions to ensure you are both on the same page regarding parenting responsibilities and expectations.

  • While rare, postpartum complications such as infections or postpartum hemorrhage can occur. Our postpartum plan includes information on recognizing the signs and knowing when to seek immediate medical assistance.

  • Postpartum planning empowers pregnant women with knowledge and resources to navigate the challenges of the postpartum period confidently. It helps them feel more in control and less overwhelmed during a time of significant change and adjustment.

  • Early intervention can prevent minor issues from escalating into more significant problems. Having a plan enables you to address any issues or concerns quickly.

Why Postpartum Planning Matters for Baby

  • Your baby's well-being is directly related to your own. You can better care for your baby if you are well-cared for and healthy.

  • Babies thrive on emotional connection and bonding with their caregivers, primarily their mothers, in the early stages. Nurturing your emotional needs fosters a strong and secure emotional attachment with the baby.

  • Your physical and emotional health affects your ability to provide proper nutrition for the baby. Whether you choose to breastfeed or formula feed, having a plan can help you make decisions without wasting time.

  • Babies rely on their caregivers, particularly mothers, for security and stability. Babies will feel secure and develop trust in their environment when their mothers are consistent and available.

  • A mother's emotional well-being can influence the baby's sleep patterns and quality. Calm and relaxed mothers can help create a soothing infant sleep environment.

Reduced Stress and Anxiety

Pregnancy can be overwhelming and full of opinions. We can help you understand your wants and needs and reduce the noise of other people's opinions. We help you to prioritize your physical and mental well-being during the postpartum period. Our plans will help you find time and set boundaries to ensure you can engage in meaningful self-care routines.

Improved Physical Recovery

Involving your partner and family in creating a postpartum plan can promote open and effective communication. We will help facilitate discussions around shared responsibilities, expectations, and potential challenges, fostering a supportive and understanding environment for all family members.

Enhanced bonding with baby

By prioritizing your emotional well-being and creating a structured routine, you'll be better equipped to connect with your little one on a deeper level. This planning process allows you to reduce stress, focus on the joys of parenthood, and create precious moments with your baby, strengthening the unbreakable bond between parent and child from the very start.

FAQs

How are the Postpartum Plans personalized?

Our therapists meet with each person individually to understand their concerns postpartum. We will also meet with anyone within your support network that you would like to be present. Together, we will all create a plan that feels right for you.

Does postpartum planning help with my transition back to work?

We incorporate your return to work in your postpartum plan. Establishing what your support will look like early on will allow you more time and energy to connect with your baby.

What community resources will we discuss during these sessions?

Community resources are dependent on your area. These resources include support groups, postpartum doulas, physical therapy, acupuncture, and more.

Can my partner participate in the postpartum planning sessions?

We want you both to feel supported in this transition and encourage their involvement. Non-birthing partners can experience postpartum mood and anxiety disorders as well.

Can I schedule a follow-up to review my plan now that I am postpartum?

We are happy to meet with you again to discuss changing your plan to align with your and your baby's needs.

How much does it cost?

The initial planning session is $175.

If you end up needing a follow-up session to make adjustments to your plan, the cost is $90.

When is the best time to start planning for postpartum?
